Hello,I'm Francisca, from Nigeria and I live in Lagos. In November 2011,I decided to lock my hair. Its been 9 months now and I still have trouble finding the right products and a good stylist that knows what he/she is doing with my hair. I have been to various salons and all the stylists I've met know next to nothing about dreads. They keep using dread wax which causes build up and retards hair growth. I really don't want to give up, I've spent close to 100k since I decided to opt in for dreads!! I really need a good stylist! Help!
Nat: Hi Francisca, I know very little about this subject, and the best advice I can give is for you to find sites dedicated to dreadlocks. I know how difficult it is to find good and affordable stylists in Nigeria and on line assistance can go a long way in killing your frustration. Like most Naturals, I had to find my way through my journey by using the information I found on Natural Hair sites and forums like BGLH and CN. Once you know how to take care of your hair by yourself, the pressure to find a stylist and your dependence on him/her reduces. Plus you get to spend very little money on your hair *_^...that, I love.
So, does anyone know about deadlocks maintenance? Please share sites, and/or techniques that you have developed. And if you know a stylist IN LAGOS please leave a comment.
Thanks!
My sister has been on dreads for a while now and her stylist is good. The guy's salon is at Tafa Balewa Crescent off Adeniran Ogunsanya. She could try him
ReplyDeleteYes, his name is Jatto, he is at No 52, Tafawa Balewa Crescent, off Adeniran Ogunsanya. The guy is really talented. I just used him 2 weeks back and I have received loads of compliments on my dreads, and I have given a number of referrals too. All the best.

Yes. I had one of the best dreadlocks guy style my dreads for almost two years. He worked with celebs too, but is still very affordable.
ReplyDeleteFirst thing they did was get rid of all the wax the my former stylist was using to lock my wax. and then gently worked with my hair till it locked and was really cool.
Niways, she can reach me on nigeriannaturalhair@gmail.com, so I can give her his number.
