Know the name for your gele (gaylay)?

Many of you might not know this but the Nigerian Gele (gaylay) has different styles and names...you've got "Boy's- follow-me", "ceiling fan", "hand fan"....and many others. Some ladies tie them to be so outrageously wide that they cover everyone behind or beside them. Some churches even had to ban the gele at some point (the outrageously large ones).

Lagbaja, a  Nigerian musician, wrote a song for the gele in which he listed some of the popular names ...enjoy!
Know any more styles? Please share with us...
Happy Weekends!!

Cultural Friday: Celebrating Igbo Music & Culture

I am an Edo girl who loves the Oriental Brothers. This is music from the 70's. These days all we hear na 'oyibo-wanna-be'....me I no be d'banj fan but I love cultural music (high-life). The major members of this band are dead now and the sad story is that music like this is hard to come by as most Nigerian youths are too engrossed in copying the west. I miss the oriental brothers, I miss Sir Osita Osadebe....may they rest in peace. Happy viewing.
To my Naija People; remember to smile...look left and right, bend, move, and be proud to be Beautifully African. God bless Nigeria, God bless Africa....Igbo Kwenu!!
