Cultural Friday: Celebrating Igbo Music & Culture

I am an Edo girl who loves the Oriental Brothers. This is music from the 70's. These days all we hear na 'oyibo-wanna-be'....me I no be d'banj fan but I love cultural music (high-life). The major members of this band are dead now and the sad story is that music like this is hard to come by as most Nigerian youths are too engrossed in copying the west. I miss the oriental brothers, I miss Sir Osita Osadebe....may they rest in peace. Happy viewing.
To my Naija People; remember to smile...look left and right, bend, move, and be proud to be Beautifully African. God bless Nigeria, God bless Africa....Igbo Kwenu!!

  4. Happy you loved it Char!! I wish I could see you move like my Igbo sisters...it is not as easy as it looks.
I hope I do not sound rude when I say Nigerian youths try to copy the West...please don't get me wrong.I love a lot of Western musicians...Donell Jones, Jill Scott,Siraj Nuri, Angie Stone,Esperanza, Jamiroquai, Andre 3000...the list is endless...I love them all and hope to one day see them perform live. My problem is that Nigerian youths don't appreciate what they've got. Most songs sound so westernized, the dancers break dance, and have long weaves. I just get a bit scared that one day my Kids might not know what their culture really is. South Africans sound South African, Congolese sound Congolese...but Nigerians...our culture is gradually fading away.

  5. No ma'am... Not rude at all!! I agree with you!! You don't want to remove your culture... You want your people to embrace who and what they are and where they come from... From the dancing to the music to the clothing to the FOOD (YUMMY)....

Not rude at all, doll! :O) I love this post and everything you've said!
