REVIEW: HEMANI ZAIT JADAYL HAIR FORMULA

Happy Holidays People!
Like I promised the Hemani Zait Jadayl Hair formula review is ready.

 Ingredients
Mustard oil, Olive Oil, Coriander Oil, Jatamansi, Coconut oil, Alkanna Tinctoria Oil, and other beneficial herbs.

Claims
1. Significantly reduces/stops breakage: The vendor drew similarities between Man-shanu and the product in question. She claimed that like man-shanu, Zait Jadayl stopped breakage significantly. And with reduction in breakage comes length retention. Abi?
2. Thickens the hair
3. Great as a pre-poo treatment.

First Impressions
1. Nice packaging
2. List of ingredients: I noticed that Hemani only listed 6 ingredients on the bottle. "...and other beneficial herbs"? Hmm....
3.The smell: A bit too strong at first but you sort of get used to it. My comfort was in knowing that it would soon come off.
4. No direction for use on the bottle: I wish the company gave some instructions on how we can use their product. Do we leave it in? Wash it off? Apply on the hair? Skin....what?

My Experience
Before HZJ: For the past 3 weeks, I have been wearing chunky twists. During the first 2 weeks we had humid/hot weather (so grateful for AC's). During this period, my hair was the last thing on my mind. I'd put it up in a bun or tie it up quickly and be good to go. Then out of no where it rained and the dry harmattan winds blew in angrily the very next day. Instead of taking down my hair and doing a dc treatment to protect it from the harsh weather, I totally ignored it again (issokay). Fast forward to Wednesday last week an what I saw after take down was very dry, lifeless, straw-like hair :(
How I used Zait Jadayl hair formula to detangle natural hair: So I poured a bit of the oil into my palm and smoothed it on a little section of hair, then I patiently took out the tangles and knots. Like Olive Oil and Coconut Oil (my favs), Zait Jadayl hair formula did a great job of getting those dry hair strands to separate with a bit more ease. The oil is not too thick or sticky. Application is easy and working with hair that has too much of the product is not as uncomfortable as working with hair that has too much castor oil *_*.
*The state my hair was in, if I had applied water before detangling, I would have lost a lot more hair than I did.

Will I use it for this purpose again?
Oh yes.

Using Hemani Zait Jadayl hair formula for a pre poo treatment:
Using the baggie method, I did a pre-poo treatment with the product. I sat under a hooded dryer for 30mins and after an hour, I went on to wash my hair. Lord!! My hair strands thirsty. It took a lot of water to get it soaking wet.
After washing once and co-washing twice, I proceeded to detangle. I noticed that my hair did not just shed but was also breaking as I detangled!
Whose fault? Most definitely not the oil. Remember that I neglected my hair for 2 weeks and one week of very dry weather. It is only normal that I deal with the results.
I almost expected the product to protect my hair from my negligence after just an hour of leaving it on but lets face it, that is too much to expect from any product.
Immediately after washing, I knew I had to do the right thing; I had to do a moisture treatment. Not in the mood to mix anything up, I used my Natural Nigerian Moisture Detangling Leave in Conditioner as a deep conditioning moisture treatment for my still thirsty roots .
After an hour, I took out the excess, applied some of my shea butter mix, braided and left hair to air dry.

By the next day, my hair was dry but very soft again. Amen! :) Above is a picture I took of my hair two days after wash day. Still soft and very easy to manage.
To Protect my hair from further damage I...
Applied some Natural Nigerian hemp seed oil and twisted the hair in big chunks. If you look closely you will see that I used Noble kinky extensions- which is very close to my hair texture, colour and length  - to twist my hair. This should last for a week and after, I will do another Zait Jadyl pre poo treatment and follow up with a moisture treatment.
Will I use this product again?
Yes.
But you still experienced breakage after first use, why go back to it?
I do not expect any product to miraculously fix days, weeks or months of neglect in one day.I would keep using it and would report my results after each use. Jemila told me to expect results in 4 months so I'm prepared to give this product more chances to prove itself.

Man-Shanu Review

Straight to the point...
After cowashing, I liberally applied the product to my damp hair (in sections), wore plastic caps and left the hair too deepcondition. I had other things to do so I left it on for 5hrs. Then the wahala came: Rinsing was annoying! I had to do another co-wash with lots of conditioner to get the stuff off my hair! After washing it I was too tired to do anything to it so I applied my leave in and went to bed.
In the morning I took down each individul braid, applied coconut oil and Shea butter to the ends( Shea b. from the kinkyapothecary. My hair loves that stuff!)

My Experince:

  • Man-shanu has slip so application was easy.
  • My ends were really dry after taking down old twists but this morning I noticed how soft and well behaved my ends are. No matting and sectioning was easy (you know difficult tightly coiled hair gets when the ends are dry)
  • For want of a better description my hair strands seem thicker. For last  two weeks I  noticed my hair breaking more than usual . Even after deep conditioning ,my hair still felt dry. The first day after wash-day was great but by the third day I noticed that my hair (especially the ends) were really dry. Anyways today I could count the number of stands I saw after finger combing. So my Fulani classmates might just be right when they say it reduces breakage.
  • Unlike most of the deep conditioners I have used, man-shanu does not drip all over. It sticks to the hair like...butter:)
Well, I think that man-shanu, like MissJay said ,will be better  for a pre-poo treatment if used alone. As a deep conditioner it sticks to the hair and you might have to wash your hair all over again.  I'd  rather mix it with other products than use it alone as a deep conditioner.
I'll use it for a prepoo treatment next and do a review. This wont be anytime soon sha...

STORAGE:
I put the product in a bowl with a cover and stored it in the fridge. It might get hard but when you take it out and leave it for sometime it'll return to its normal consistensy

Natural Hair Product Find Nigeria: Natur Vital Color Hair Mask

Some time back I did a post on Natur Vital Henna Shampoo. I promised to buy the conditioner and give a review but unfortunately I couldn't find one so I bought the hair mask and decided to give it a try. Like I said in the other post , this product was recommended by my friends  who have permed hair. They have nothing but praise for it. So lets proceed with the review from a natural 4a/b/c head.

Claims
  • Nourishes and adds shine.
  • In 5 minutes the mask restructures and softens the hair.
  • Leaves hair moisturized and shiny with a touch of color that revives the hair's natural look.
Especially Recommended For:-
  • Natural or dyed hair.
  Ingredients

    My Results
I bought the one for chestnut hair...notice how thick it is.

To get the best results, I washed my hair with Natur Vital Heena Shampoo-which I love by the way-and then applied the hair mask.
The hair mask is very thick. This makes application very easy on 4a/b/c hair. I used a wide tooth comb to detangle after application and the product was as good as a conditioner is  for detangling. Detangling after application helped to evenly distribute the hair mask through my hair.
I left it on a bit over the required time and then rinsed it off. The mask left my hair  really soft and shiny. It felt well moisturized and  I could run my hands through my hair without a conditioner in it. It was that good.
The downside is that it can stain your finger nails. So I advice you use rubber gloves before applying. Be very careful as it can leave stains on your bathroom wall. Not to worry, the stains comes off easily.
Before ending this post I must add that ever since I found Natur Vital henna shampoo, I have stopped using other shampoos apart from Dudu Osun black soap  to wash my hair. After  washing my hair with other shampoos I must use a conditioner before I can attempt detangling. But with Natur Vital shampoo, my hair is soft enough to go without a leave in conditioner.
Will I buy this product again?
YES!! I'm thinking of getting the black hair mask....or maybe the red... fortunately the color effect gradually fades after 3-4 washes. So yes I'll continue to use it for as long as I get good results.

    Natur Vital Henna Shampoo

My friends have so much praise for Natur Vitals Shampoos and conditioners. They say the shampoo is not too harsh on the hair and it gives it shine.  So I went to Sahad Stores and bought a bottle for N1000. I wanted the conditioner but I bought the Shampoo by mistake:) (don't ask how).
Its major ingredients are lawsonia inermis (henna) extract, and helianthus annuus (sunflower) extract.

     Claims:-
    • Makes hair shiny
    • Makes hair soft and healthy
    • Suitable for use with permanent dyes
    • Sunflower  extract from Sunflower seeds protects the colour of natural and dyed hair from the aggression of ultra-violet rays...
    • Henna obtained from crushed dried henna leaves makes the hair shiny and strong and gives it lots of body. It also brightens natural and dyed hair colour.
    Use:-
"...on wet hair and massage in gently. Leave on for a few minutes and rinse out with plenty water.''
      My Results:-
The shampoo is thick but runs out of the bottle with ease. When I first applied it, I thought my friends over hyped the product...but after completely washing my hair I must confess that I was impressed. The shampoo left my hair and scalp clean plus my hair really felt soft. As for shine, I'm not so sure about that...
Will I buy another bottle? Yes.
When I get back from camp (compulsory youth service) I will buy the conditioner and give a review. Peace!!

      Coconut Oil Review

Heres how  style my hair using coconut oil
      •  Wash, deep condition and rinse .
      • Dab some of the water off my hair.
      • Depending on the style, put a few drops of Coconut oil on my palm, and apply to a section of my hair.
      • Seal my ends with my Shea butter and olive oil mix
      • Style.
      Pros of coconut oil
      • My hair does NOT feel greasy
      • My hair stays moisturized for the whole week.
      • No sticky feel with Coconut oil
      • For some reason my hair dries faster and stays moisturized.
      • My hair stays soft and looks it too.
      Cons..
      • The only thing I can come up with is that it runs out of the bottle fast. Be careful when pouring it on your palm. And like all other oils, moderation goes a long way.
I read that there is a healthier way to make Coconut oil. Its called  Cold Processed  or Cold Pressed  Coconut Oil. When I run out of what I have now, I'll make some using that method and update.

      My hair and Coconut oil

Its Friday and my ends are not knotted, my hair is so soft and moisturized. My scalp is not dry or oily!!
      Thank you God for Coconuts!!!^_^

      Product Review

I was so excited when I saw the Garnier Fructis Fortifying Cream Conditioner at Sahad Stores. I bought if for N750.
Many natural sisters have raved about this conditioner, so I was really excited to try it (I'm not that much of a product junkie).
Claims: "For frizzy, dry, unmanageable hair. Smoothes hair for long-lasting frizz control".
Observations: It does not have a harsh smell and it is thick enough for thick hair...just my type of conditioner...or so I thought.
My results?....Sadly, it did nothing for my 4a/b mane 0_o. Did not help in detangling and no matter how much I applied, I did not get the results I got from enliven or v05 conditioners.
Using a different method, I will try this product again and see what happens.
